Magneto

Magneto adalah karakter fiktif yang ada di Marvel. Tokoh Magneto diciptakan oleh Stan Lee dan Jack Kirby. Magneto sendiri  muncul di komik Marvel pada tahun 1963 di Komik "The X-Men #1". Sosok Magneto digambarkan sebagai tokoh yang cukup rumit. Awalnya Stan Lee mengbangun karakter protagonis, kemudian mengubahnya menjadi sosok antagonis di serial X-Men.
 
Dalam film "X-Men: First Class" versi Mattew Vaughn, sosok Magneto adalah seorang laki-laki yang berasal dari Palandia yang bernama Erik Lensherr. Pada saat itu perang dunia sedang terjadi dan Nazi menguasai tempat tinggalnya. Kejadian tersebut membuat ia terpisah dengan orang tuanya. Pada saat itu ia tak sengaja menunjukan kekuatannya pada Sebastian Shaw yang juga merupakan mutan. 

Ketika Erik muda, ia hanya bisa ngontrol kekuatannya saat dirinya sedang emosi. Shaw akhirnya membunuh ibu Erik untuk memancing kekuatan Erik. Karena kejadian tersebut Erik dapat mengontrol kekuatannya dan berusaha membunuh Shaw yang merupakan mutan yang kuat. 

Saat perjalannya memburu Shaw, Erik bertemu dengan Charles Xavier. Mereka berdua akhirnya bersama-sama mengumpulkan mutan lain dan mendirikan sekolah mutan. Awal tujuan didirikannya akademi tersebut adalah untuk mengalahkan Shaw yang ternyata milikipasukan yang terdiridari pada mutan.

Setelah berhasil menghentikan Shaw, Erik memiliki perbedaan visi dengan Xavier terkait dengan pandangan mereka mengenai manusia. Erik berpendapat jika manusia ingin memusnahkan para mutan karena berbahaya, sedangkan Xavier berpendapat jika mutan dan manusia dapat hidup berdampingan. Perbedaan inilah yang membuat mereka berpisah dan Erik menjadi sosok yang mengerikan. Ia mencoba mengangkat derajat para mutan meskipun dengan cara harus memperbudak manusia.



Sebagai Magneto, Erik memiliki kekuatan untuk mengontrol logam. Dalam beberapa kejadian Magneto ternyata dapat mengendalikan logan yang berat seperti kapal selam nuklir yang beratnya hampir 30 ribu ton yang ia kendalikan saat ia menghentikan Shaw. selain itu, Magneto memiliki sebuah helm yang dapat melindungi dirinya dari kekuatan telepati putan lainnya sehingga dirinya tak dapat dikontrol orang lain.
